Sliding into 2023 - January Update

The students are doing wonderfully with their responsibilities at training each week, including travelling to and from the mountain. Groups are all off to a good start and by the end of tomorrow will be pretty much set for the rest of the season. We will have corridor training (which had been scheduled for Dec 23) on the Huckleberry Chair for most groups tomorrow, which will be a good challenge of the technical freeskiing skills that have been the focus so far. As the terrain parks come to life on the mountain, coaches will start to introduce more park skills over the coming weeks.
Please watch the LSA online calendar for updates and schedules, including a few upcoming PD days where we will not have LSA training.
Google Classrooms
By the end of the day tomorrow, students will all be connected with their coaches in Google Classrooms. We will work on invitations to parents at the email addresses you have provided as quickly as possible so that you can receive weekly summaries as well. Coaches will soon be posting videos, photos and reflection questions. The classrooms are great training tools to help the athletes stay focused on their goals and progression through the year.
Save the Dates - Friday, March 24th & Saturday March 25th - LSAS Update
Friday, March 24th will be the final day of training this season. We host competitions for the students on the mountain that day and throughout that week and we will be recruiting parent volunteers to help, especially on the Friday!
Saturday, March 25th is the date for the LSA Society (LSAS)'s main fundraising event. We will be hosting a silent auction and dinner at Castle Mountain that evening. Many more details to come, and all families will be asked to help in obtaining silent auction items and selling tickets - thanks in advance for all of your support and we're all excited for a super fun event!
In addition, each year the LSA helps to host the Tom Tataryn World's Longest Slalom Race at Castle Mountain, and the date this spring is also Saturday, March 25th - during the day. Watch for a call for volunteers from the LSA Society (LSAS) very soon.
Looking for Homestay Families for 2023-24
We have received expressions of interest from potential international students to join the LSA next winter (from as far away as Turkey!). LRSD's Homestay Coordinator is our very own Danielle Tetachuk (our hard-working LSAS treasurer). For more information, you can send an email to globalstudents@lrsd.ab.ca.
