The Snow is Flying! November LSA Update

Here are some key updates for the month ahead. Please note, events with details are also listed on the LSA Website Calendar.

Volunteering Opportunity at the Crowsnest Pass Ski Swap (Grades 7-12) - Friday, Nov 4th
We have an exciting opportunity for students in Grades 7-12 at the coming Crowsnest Pass Ski Swap this Friday/Saturday in Bellevue. Students are invited to help with the set-up of the sale from 2:30pm - 5:00pm at the MDM Centre (2802 222 St, Bellevue, AB). Those who volunteer will have pre-sale access for any equipment they might be looking to purchase (Parents can come a bit before 5pm for this - or help us out on the whole shift!). If you are interested in joining us (you will need to provide your own transportation to and from the ski swap), please sign up on this form.

Ski Tuning Clinic this Friday, Nov 4th
Mr. Bailey will host 2 Ski Tuning Clinics at the school this Friday for students in Grades 7-12 on Flex Friday from 8:45 - 9:45am and 9:45 - 10:45am. We'll review how to prepare and sharpen your edges, and how to clean, wax and brush your bases. Parents of LSA athletes of all ages are welcome to join in - just check-in at the office when you arrive. If you have your own tuning bench and vices, bring your gear and a pair of skis along! We'll be using the school garage, so dress warmly! See below for the special discount LSA enjoys at Alpenland that is valid on tuning gear as well, so you can keep your skis running smoothly (and gripping too!) all season long.

LSA Visit to Alpenland Ski & Cycle in Lethbridge - Thursday, Nov 10th (& Alpenland offers to LSA families for 2022-23)
Our good friends at Alpenland are inviting all LSA families to their Lethbridge store (1202 3 Ave S, Lethbridge, AB) next Thursday, Nov 10th. Mr. Bennett and I will be there with the shop team from 1:30pm - 3:00pm to help you with any questions/purchases to help you get set for the season. Alpenland is offering some great deals to all LSA members - you can access these anytime and at any location, just let the staff know you are in the LSA:

  • 10% discount on regular priced skis, boots, and bindings
    • FREE mounting of bindings and waxing of any new ski/board purchases
  • 15% discount on helmets, gloves, goggles, long underwear, etc.
  • 20% off all ski/board tuning throughout the season
  • Seasonal equipment rentals available for $250 - inquire in store or call (403-329-6099)

The Lethbridge shop has the largest selection of gear and goods, so you'll be able to view and try on the best assortment of sizes there. Families will need to arrange their own transportation for the shop visit if you'd like to join in. You can drop in anytime between 1:30 and 3:00pm.

Season Pass Printing/Gear Check and Informed Consent Event at the School - Wednesday, Nov 16th
Watch your email later this week for a link to sign-up for a time to come to the school on Wednesday, Nov 16th between 4 and 7pm for our annual Informed Consent, Season Pass Printing and Gear Check event. Our friends from Castle Mountain and Alpenland will be at the school and you'll also be able to sign all of your required LSA waivers right there. We will offer 3 "waves" between 4 and 7pm that afternoon/evening. If you know you will not be able to attend, please connect with me so that we can make alternate arrangements.

LSA Schedule and Dryland Training starts Monday, Dec 5th
The school moves into Term 2, and the LSA schedule kicks in on Monday, Dec 5th! Students will have season-prep and dryland sessions at the school on Dec 5th/7th (for 7-12) and 6th (for 4-6), with the whole team together on Friday, Dec 9th. We will have details and permission forms out to you soon for Dec 9th where we will be visiting Pincher Creek for a full day of dryland training and team building!

LSAS Monthly Meeting - Thursday, Nov 17th
The LSA Society (LSAS) meets for November at 7pm on Thursday, Nov 17th. You can join in person at the school or online via google meets. There will be a google meet link on the LSA Website Calendar for you to join on the 17th. All LSA parents are welcome at all LSAS meetings. The LSAS is currently recruiting volunteers for a number of key committees to organize fundraising to support the LSA program. These include the annual Fiesta, Raffle, Grant Writing and Sponsorship. If you are interested in helping out you can sign up here, you do not need to be on the LSAS board of directors to volunteer, and these roles will not take up your whole year. Please reach out to LSAS President, Crissy Riegert if you have any questions (crissy.riegert@gmail.com).

We are so grateful for the support of all of our families from getting your students to each day of the program, to the additional fundraising and support you lend to keep our program strong and inclusive.

Please connect with Mr. Bailey if you have any questions - baileys@lrsd.ab.ca
